Gettysburg Adventist Christian School

Helping Me Be the Me God Made Me to Be
The Home and School Association

September 2009

Dear Church Family,

I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a little about Home and School.  Did you know that the  North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists (NAD), recommends that Gettysburg Church, as well as all the churches with schools, have an active Home and School Association?  It is urged by the NAD that we constantly recruit as many members as possible.  We can never have enough members! Education leaders, pastors, church officers, senior citizens, singles and all church members are invited.  The more people involved, the stronger our church and school will be.  There is a very close bond between the church and the school and our children will benefit greatly from this kind of unity! EVERYONE is a member, but you have the choice to become an active member!
I might also add that it is the responsibility of all of us to provide support for our children and families attending public school, as well!

We can only function if we have a team spirit among our members.   Remember, that we are a 'Church School'.   My philosophy is that if we each get involved just a little bit we can carry the load withou burden.  However, if only a few people are involved it is a heavy burden.
An example of this is the yard sale.  Hypothetically, it takes 30 man hours to set it up.  It would take one person 30 hours to do it alone.  If 30 folks come out and work diligently it will only take one hour!  That is just one small example.  There are many opportunities to serve the school, through volunteerism.  We need to be mindful of each other's time and value it as we
would our own!  In this way, we bless each other and we are blessed in return!

We are thankful to have the Local Conference Office of Education  as a resource agency for leadership training, resources and support.  If you, as a parent or guardian need a resource to tackle a problem or prevent one, please contact a member of our team and we will make every effort to provide you with the material you may need.

In addition, a close tie exists between the Home and School officers, the Education Secretary, the Family Life coordinator, and the Youth Ministries personnel in the local church. In a cooperative effort we are to keep the needs of families and their children before the church. It is suggested, therefore, that Home and School work in conjunction with these representatives to complement one another’s efforts and to provide care for the entire family.

For more information about Home and School please read the official manual which can be found below.

Gettysburg has been blessed with an abundance of children. This is a tremendous responsibility. There is much to the notion that, 'It takes a village.' That is true, however we should really say, 'It takes a village  (or CHURCH) with GOD's help and direction to do it right!

May God abundantly bless our efforts to provide the best education possible for our children in accordance with His will!  Please partner with us in a unified effort to make this a wonderful school year for all the children of our church!

Best regards,
Gretchen Harmon
